School of Business Student Experience

The School of Business supports an active community of students with 17 student clubs and organizations, such as the Entrepreneurship Club, the International Business Society, the Social Media Club and a $3 million student-managed investment portfolio. In addition, our students take part in many business competitions, including those sponsored by the American Marketing Association, the National Student Advertising Competition, the NYSSA Challenge and others. We’re also affiliated with industry-leading professional associations, such as the International Business Society and the American Marketing Association.

Experiential Learning

Critical to a Quinnipiac education is our emphasis on experiential learning. Our students have the opportunity to travel and work in industries and organizations across the country and around the world.

Students are encouraged to explore coursework and cultural experiences through the Central European Institute in Hungary; academic partnerships in England, Ireland and France; and international internships in the U.K. and China.

QU in LA is a year-round program, available to undergraduate and graduate students, that joins an internship with coursework in the business and entertainment mecca of Los Angeles.

Closer to home, many of our students have benefited from internships in New York City and Boston. Likewise, the School of Business has longstanding relationships with area corporations that host information sessions on campus and hire our students as interns. A number of other area businesses invite our students to their offices for on-site visits. At Quinnipiac, you'll get a remarkably broad view of the world of business.

Welcome Back to the Innovation Hub

Quinnipiac University School of Business Innovation Hub

The Quinnipiac Innovation Hub buzzed with innovative business ideas and concepts during its welcome-back event.

The event — which was open to all students throughout the university — was designed to promote interdisciplinary collaboration.

“It is really cool seeing how the center operates and how they help people and will continue to do that,” said Sarah Almeida ’23, MBA ’24, a second-year 3+1 accelerated dual-degree finance and computer information systems double major, who started working at the center this semester. “Not a lot of schools have places that encourage new business ideas and help fund them to make them possible and I am so excited to be a part of this.”

The Innovation Hub plays the role of the epicenter for innovation throughout Quinnipiac. One of the partner spaces is The Maker’s Space in the School of Computing and Engineering, where students are able to use the materials to create prototypes prior to pitches.

Patrice Luoma, professor of entrepreneurship and strategy, ran the event and promoted the Innovation Hub and the 2023 QU Pitch Competition.

The collaboration of students with varying talents and interests is important for a project to be successful, Luoma pointed out. The Innovation Hub acts as the common space for the students at Quinnipiac.

Student Spotlight

Kiley Andrews ’18, Sydney Kenyon ’19, and Cara O’Meally ’19, all Biomedical Marketing students, working during class.

Opportunities across the globe

Before her arrival at Quinnipiac, Cara O‘Meally ’19 knew she wanted a major that would combine the worlds of health science and business, and biomedical marketing seemed like the perfect fit. Her initial interest in global public health, however, had more to do with wanderlust.

“I added the global public health minor because I knew I really wanted to travel and experience different cultures,” O‘Meally said.

A student-athlete, O‘Meally was unable to study abroad for a semester like she had wanted. However, the global public health minor opened the door to a summer internship in northern India with Child Family Health International.

”This was my one chance,” O’Meally said. “It wasn’t a hard decision at all.”

O’Meally spent 4 weeks observing government and non-government organizations around New Delhi as they attempted to help various populations in the community. Each day took her to a different location, from private and public hospitals and rehabilitation facilities, to HIV clinics, transgender centers and daycare facilities for street children.

“These places were able to do so much for their people with such limited access to the resources they needed,” O’Meally said. “It broadened my understanding of what life’s necessities really are.”

Leadership Programs and Peer Mentorship

Role-modeling and mentoring from a successful student’s perspective

Engagement Fellows

The School of Business engagement fellows program, led by Professor Fullick-Jagiela, is a hands-on leadership opportunity for students who are highly invested in not just their own learning but also in the learning and development of others. Throughout the academic year, engagement fellows facilitate student and faculty exchanges in classes where hands-on learning is crucial to achieving learning outcomes. They go beyond the traditional approach of teaching assistants, supporting students throughout class interactions and serving as a successful role model.

In addition to working with students and the faculty in the courses they support, engagement fellows themselves participate in an exceptional learning experience that prepares them for their careers and for life. Each week, the fellows meet with Professor Fullick-Jagiela to share highlights, tips, techniques and communication strategies. They work together to brainstorm ways to overcome challenges and talk extensively about societal impact, conflict resolution, team dynamics, time management, providing and receiving effective feedback, empathy and emotional intelligence. During their time in the program, engagement fellows take advantage of ample opportunities to reflect upon their own reasoning processes while gaining insight from reasoned discussions with others.

Since Fall 2020, Professor Fullick-Jagiela has worked with 82 fellows who supported over 100 classes within the School of Business. These former fellows have applied their experience in the program to secure internships, jobs and admission to graduate school programs.

An award-winning reputation

The School of Business supports a student-run campus chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world’s largest HR professional society. Each year, SHRM@QU offers seminars, workshops and Q&A sessions hosted by guest speakers from nationally recognized businesses and organizations. Members also have the chance to organize special events that address the many social and cultural changes affecting human resources practices in the workplace.

SHRM@QU recently earned the Superior Merit Award from SHRM. The student group was recognized for providing superior growth and development opportunities to its chapter members.

In addition to yearly skill-building and networking events, SHRM@QU members have access to a deep network of resources that help them secure internships and other professional opportunities necessary for kicking off successful careers in human resource management.

The Society for Human Resource Management has acknowledged that Quinnipiac University's BS in Human Resource Management program is in academic alignment with their HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates. The HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum HR content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Quinnipiac's alignment was recently renewed from May 2020 to December 2025.
