The M&T Bank Center for Women and Business is dedicated to assisting women and their allies achieve their professional goals. Each year, the Center awards scholarships and funding to provide opportunities to meet these goals.

Women pursuing a business degree program at Quinnipiac University who demonstrate outstanding potential in the field are invited to apply for this annual scholarship. Past recipients include:

Juliana Sarbieski ’25, MBA ’26

  • Juliana Sarbieski is working toward a bachelor's in computer information systems and accounting with an expected graduation date of May 2025 and is planning to earn her MBA by May 2026.

Call for Papers | Research Award Program 2026-27

The Future of Work

The M&T Bank Center for Women and Business cordially invites all Quinnipiac students and faculty to participate in our annual research awards competition. The awards are in the amount of $2,500 each to support student and faculty research that aligns with the M&T Bank Center for Women and Business' mission to advance research and deliver programs that foster professional resilience, well-being and connection for lives and careers. Through partnerships and community, we equip women and their allies to lead and drive lasting impact in organizations and beyond.

This year, our research theme centers on the topic of The Future of Work across various disciplines. The technological advancements, particularly in AI and automation, are reshaping work practices, organizational structures and societal institutions, including labor markets and education systems. This transformation is further influenced by demographic shifts, changing socio-political landscapes and new remote and hybrid work models. Additionally, the evolving nature of workplace collaboration and communication, as well as the ethical implications and societal impacts of these changes, are areas that demand thorough investigation.   

We invite all Quinnipiac students and faculty to contribute papers that explore these dynamics. Your research may address, but is not limited to, the impact of AI and automation on specific job roles, the influence of demographic and socio-political changes on work culture and the effectiveness of new work models. We are particularly interested in insights into how these trends are influencing the well-being of women, reshaping skill requirements and transforming leadership and management practices. Proposals that offer innovative perspectives or solutions to the challenges posed by these shifts in the workplace are especially welcome.   

This research will result in a submission of an article to a peer-reviewed conference or quality journal (meeting the scholarship requirements of your department) in 2026-27 and a presentation to the M&T Bank Center for Women and Business community. The research awardees are expected to create a poster and take part in the academic exploration poster session and the Bobcat Weekend academic poster session.

  1. February 2026 - Attend one of our four research methodology workshops

  2. March 16, 2026 at 5 p.m. - Research proposal draft submission deadline. Late submissions will not be considered.

  3. April 6, 2026 - Feedback provided on the research proposal draft by a review committee.

  4. April 27, 2026 at 5 p.m. - Final research proposal submission deadline. Late submissions will not be considered.

  5. May 18, 2026 - Research award recipients will be announced.

  6. May 31, 2027 - Completed manuscript submitted to the M&T Bank Center for Women and Business.

  7. May 31, 2027 - Completed manuscript submitted for review to a journal or conference.

  8. December 31, 2027 - Presentation to the M&T Bank Center for Women and Business community.

The proposal file should not include the name(s) of the applicant(s).  Research proposals have a strict 5-page limit. Please do not exceed the page limitation.

To be considered, your application must include the following:

  • Title of Research Proposal

  • Research Description: Please provide a 3-5 page summary of the research proposal documenting the following:

    • Brief description of the topic of investigation or research

    • Research goals and projected project timeline

    • Specific research question(s) to be explored

    • Specific hypotheses or postulates where appropriate

    • Research methodology (Please identify if primary or secondary data will be used and if IRB approval will be/has been applied for. If secondary data will be used, please indicate its source; if primary data will be utilized, please identify the target population and data collection method.)

    • Timeline

    • Expected outcomes

    • References (can be included in an appendix)

  • Alignment of work with M&T Bank Center for Women and Business Mission: Please clearly describe how your work aligns with the mission of the M&T Bank Center for Women and Business (500 words).

  • Co-authors/additional researcher: Please list any additional co-authors you will be working with (or indicate if there are none); include their university or company affiliation and if there are any other awards supporting this research (Please note: the research award is only applicable to current Quinnipiac University faculty and students).

  • Target Outlet(s): List the target journal(s) and/or conference to which you intend to submit the research manuscript within your target timeframe.

  • Potential Impact of Award Research: Identify the potential impact of the intellectual contribution that will result, in whole or in part, from the award of the research award. Indicators of impact should focus on the potential for the intellectual contribution to result in:

    • Peer recognition of the originality, scope and/or significance of new knowledge.

    • The applicability and benefits of the new knowledge to theory, practice and/or teaching.

    • Usefulness and/or originality of new or different understandings, applications and insights resulting from the creative work.

    • The breadth, value and persistence of the use and impact of the creative work.

    • Originality and significance to learning, including the depth and duration of usefulness as well as adoption or citations by peers.

    • Research awards and recognition (e.g., selection as a fellow of an academic society).

    • Citations of the creative work indicating impact on the creative work of others.

    • Evidence of leadership and team contributions to the advancement of knowledge.

  • Initial Payment
    If your research proposal is selected by the research award committee, you will receive an initial payment of $1,250 in June 2026.

  • Completed Research Payment
    Once your research manuscript is sent out for review, you will be eligible for the remaining $1,250 payment. To receive this payment, submit a copy of the research manuscript or conference presentation/proceedings and submission information to Hanna Hejmowski at hanna.hejmowski@qu.edu, indicating which journal/conference you have sent it to for review. This must be completed by May 31, 2027.

2023-2024

Elena Bertozzi, professor of game design and development, authored a research proposal titled, “Assessing the Efficacy and Utility of the “What's My Method” Game in a High-Risk, Low-Resource Population.”

Ruby ElKharboutly,associate professor of software engineering, is completing a research project titled, “Fostering a Sense of Belonging for Women in Computing through Community Service.”

Katie Place, professor of strategic communication, is conducting a research project called, “For Leaders Who Listen: Exploring Organizational Listening Among Chief Executive Officers.”

2022-23

Rachida Parks and Amy Paros: Rachida Parks, professor of computer information systems, and Amy Paros, professor of management, conducted a research project titled, “Addressing Digital Resilience, Inclusivity, and Equity in Higher Education.”

Ana Allen: A political science and psychology student, Ana Allen conducted a research project titled, “Racism and Psychological Well-Being: A Study on the Efficacy of Coping Strategies as a Buffer Against Race-Based Trauma in the Black Community.”

Emily Diaz: A political science student, Emily Diaz conducted a research project titled, “Mapuche Resistance: Decolonizing histories of Gender.”

2021-22

Megan Leubner: Megan Laubner's research is on the health needs of unhoused or marginally housed people in New Haven during the COVID-19 pandemic.

2020-21

Nabiha Nuruzzaman: Medical student Nabiha Nuruzzaman's research project explores community health implications of the Navajo Nation's transition to sustainable energy.

Kathryn Reilly: Biology student Kathyrn Reilly's research involves neurocognitive hop testing as a predictor of injury among college athletes.

Tracy Van Oss: Occupational therapy professor Tracy Van Oss’ research project further develops and role models her own leadership skills with several cohorts of occupational therapy students to create sustained multifaceted experiential learning opportunities.

This research award will be considered taxable income by the IRS. Please consider this when applying. The M&T Bank Center for Women and Business Steering Committee members are not eligible to receive the research award while serving on the committee.
