Quinnipiac University

School of Health Sciences Student Experience

At Quinnipiac, you’ll join a diverse student body that shares 2 common traits: passion for their studies and a take-charge work ethic both inside and outside the classroom. Our students earn grants and conduct important research. They teach healthy habits at public schools in Connecticut, present at major industry associations and study abroad. Working in such close proximity to nursing and medical students offers something many universities do not: regular opportunities for interprofessional collaboration and research, and early exposure to a team-based atmosphere. This is an important dynamic that we believe prepares our students for the nuances of working in modern health care.

Campus Life

Life outside of the lab and classroom

Health science students from all backgrounds form a close-knit and inclusive community, and this is most reflected in our residence halls. First- and second-year students have the option of living in such Mount Carmel Campus residences as Mountainview, while juniors and seniors may choose the Townhouses or other modern apartments located on the York Hill Campus. This ensures that underclass students are always connected to the Quinnipiac student experience.

The North Haven Campus also offers beautiful and fully furnished student lounges ideal for both relaxing and studying, and serves as the meeting place for many student-led groups and events related to health care, personal wellness and other special interests.

A shuttle service connects all 3 of our campuses and runs 7 days a week. The Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences building is only a 10-minute ride from the Mount Carmel and York Hill campuses, Sleeping Giant State Park and downtown New Haven — southern Connecticut’s capital for culture and nightlife.

Living-Learning Communities

Our Living-Learning Communities offer the opportunity for first-year students to live and engage in a community of like-minded peers. Bolstered by mentorship from faculty and staff, these communities provide a strong foundation for students to develop — both academically and personally — into professionals, leaders, citizens and lifelong learners.

Interprofessional Healthcare

The Interprofessional Healthcare LLC is for students who have a strong interest in healthcare and want to be part of a community that represents and values various healthcare professions. This LLC prepares students to become thoughtful healthcare professionals who will provide safe and effective care during their careers.

Occupational Therapy

The Occupational Therapy LLC is for students interested in thinking, studying, and socializing while learning about occupational therapy (OT) and the benefits it provides to individuals and society. Members participate in curricular and co-curricular opportunities and practice-oriented academic and career advising.

Student Groups

Strength in numbers

Joining a student organization is an ideal way to boost your skills, get involved, network — and have some fun, too.

Many students volunteer to lead a team at our annual Special Athletics Day that the Physical Therapy Club holds each spring. The group also sponsors massage clinics and wheelchair basketball events throughout the year. You may organize (and run in) a 5K fundraiser for the Student Occupational Therapy Association, which meets every 2 weeks and has an active mentoring program.

In addition to clubs, there are many ways for health science students to volunteer and make a difference in the community. Some of our physician assistant (PA) students regularly serve meals at homeless shelters, provide oral health training at local health fairs, mentor high school students, and provide medical care to Connecticut’s migrant farm workers.

Organizations include:

  • American Society for Microbiology
  • Athletic Training Club
  • Behavioral Neuroscience Club
  • Physical Therapy Club
  • Pre-Health Professionals Society
  • QU EMS
  • Student Occupational Therapy Association
  • Physician Assistant Club
