A broad, integrative approach to information

Our MS in Informatics program provides students with the necessary skills to effectively navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of technology and information systems with an emphasis on ethical decision-making and responsible use of data in today's interconnected world. The program offers a comprehensive and accessible pathway for students and professionals from diverse backgrounds who are interested in pursuing careers in information management. With three tracks to choose from — health, legal or data informatics — students can tailor their curriculum to align with their interests.

Rather than focusing on developing advanced methodologies and technologies for data processing, the curriculum balances introductory data management and computing skills with a project-based learning framework that integrates multiple academic disciplines or professional fields. Courses focus on utilizing computing and databases as instruments for enhancing comprehension within their chosen emphasis area, while also exploring information ethics, assurance, trust and security. Through hands-on projects, collaborative interdisciplinary learning opportunities and exposure to real-world challenges, students gain the expertise needed to become industry leaders in the information field.

Our program also offers a thesis option that prepares students for advanced doctoral studies. This option allows students to showcase both breadth and depth of knowledge in their field of specialization through research and a presentation to a thesis committee.

Graduates will be well-prepared for a variety of career opportunities, including analytical storytelling, data analytics, legal project management and health information management.
