Do you consider every perspective when approaching a challenge? Simulation teaches students to apply statistics and modeling to develop custom solutions to unique use cases.

As part of their coursework, three Quinnipiac students used simulation to improve the flow of traffic and maximize the use of space during big events. The students attended the 2018 Spring Simulation multiconference in Baltimore, Maryland, where they presented their research and were featured in a peer-reviewed article.

Do you believe that time is money? When it comes to supply chain and operations, two Quinnipiac students have calculated just how much businesses can shave off of their transportation costs by following the most efficient transportation route. Using an algorithm, these students collected data that focused on the shortest path of transportation and its associated costs and have since been published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Have you explored the power of machine learning? By leveraging machine learning and deep learning to identify trends across data sets, undergraduate students in the industrial engineering program have the opportunity to improve vital systems across industries including healthcare.

Recently, two medical doctors worked with Quinnipiac to analyze patient data from 544 individuals. Through machine learning, the group was able to calculate and identify how additional medical tests can determine the likelihood of bladder cancer at a higher rate of accuracy.

Join our faculty as we work to improve how students interact with STEM programs throughout their educational journey. In past years, industrial engineering students at Quinnipiac have worked to identify participants, analyze data sets and present their findings in peer-reviewed articles.

Do you think a system is only as strong as the people who use it? Known in the industry as human factors, our industrial engineering students work perform research that addresses the needs of people within different working conditions and environments.

By enacting a human-centered approach to designing complex systems, industrial engineering research focuses on creating simulations that help us to anticipate obstacles and limitations for human users so that we can develop a stronger solution for real-life use cases.

Recently, Quinnipiac students interned at the Crash Safety Research Center, replicating accidents that occurred in real life and identifying what could have been done to prevent the accident in the moment. This research is critical to understanding the factors that lead to accidents and informing what systems can be implemented to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future. 

Corey Kiassat, professor of industrial engineering, worked on many projects related to human factors both at General Motors and within the healthcare industry. His latest work includes a project on enhancing physician-patient communication to improve the quality of care and patient satisfaction.

Are you ready to propel businesses forward? Students are welcome to join extensive research on game theory, and specifically, applying game theory to supply chain management. Students will consider the interests, decisions and interactions between parties in a business setting, taking a strategic approach to determining the amount of supply for players to gain the maximum possible income under certain conditions of sales.

Do you like to take the shortest path from point A to point B? That attitude is perfect for working to solve the facility allocation problem. When considering locations for vital facilities, companies must consider transportation costs and challenges, how the transportation environment will affect sales, and how sales will affect the bottom line. Conduct research and gain valuable insight to bolster your classroom experiences. 

Do you take pride in streamlining large-scale processes?  With the increased strain on the healthcare workforce, most hospitals and outpatient facilities are determined to improve their operational efficiency.

Professor Corey Kiassat invites students to join his efforts implementing Lean Six Sigma techniques at hospitals across Connecticut and New York. Students can contribute to various projects focused on improving the quality of care for patients. Recent examples include reducing patient wait time in family practice, mitigating the effects of a high rate of patient no-shows, and reducing the rate of late starts for outpatient surgeries.
