Frederick Scholl, PhD
MS in Cybersecurity Program Director
We created the Center for Cybersecurity in response to an overwhelming need for cybersecurity experts who have the technical skills to defend against sophisticated cyber attacks. Right now, there are about 465,000 unfilled cybersecurity jobs listed online, and the most recent cybersecurity jobs report suggests there will be as many as 3.5 million unfilled positions by 2025. In this same time frame, the damages from cybercrime are expected to exceed 6 trillion dollars worldwide.
Our cybersecurity programs and resources are designed to close this skills gap and provide students with the technical skills and business context they need to successfully defend our nation’s information assets. Whether you are working toward a full MS in Cybersecurity or earning badge certification, the Center for Cybersecurity will instruct you on how to build, protect and maintain a secure information infrastructure from the server room to the board room.
As a student in our cybersecurity programs, you will accumulate hands-on technical skills in risk management, security technology, data security, software security, access management, cloud security and resilient system security. Courses are taught by our esteemed faculty members, all of whom are widely respected practitioners in the cyber industry.
The Center for Cybersecurity works to ensure that the same amount of learning occurs outside of the traditional classroom as it does within. We encourage all students within the School of Computing & Engineering to join us for frequent interviews and roundtables with industry experts in business, computing, engineering and, of course, cybersecurity. These CEOs, CISOs, founders, authors and entrepreneurs each share their perspectives on the ever-changing nature of cybersecurity and provide unique opportunities to connect what you'll learn in the classroom with what you'll accomplish in your career.
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Center for Cybersecurity. I invite you to explore our expansive array of resources, attend in-person and virtual events, and learn more about the faculty, staff and programs that will serve as a launching pad for your career in cybersecurity.
