School of Education Facilities and Resources

The School of Education is located on our interprofessional and scenic North Haven Campus, alongside the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine, the School of Law, the School of Nursing and the School of Health Sciences. Here, you will learn the latest strategies, methods and technologies to prepare you for teaching in the 21st century.

Contemporary and collaborative learning

Our Center for Science Teaching and Learning offers a number of workshops in curriculum development and career preparation for students interested in teaching science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The student-run Quinnipiac Future Teachers Organization (QFTO) enables educators and social justice advocates to engage in community outreach activities to improve student learning.

Our resources extend beyond our campus location into public schools all across the state. As an intern, you’ll gain more than just a wealth of classroom experience and the opportunity to apply program theory. You’ll also form close relationships with veteran teachers and administrators who will become part of your long-term and growing professional network.

Career support after graduation

Our Alumni Bridge/Mentor Support Program matches recent graduates with experienced alumni volunteers to serve as resources and guides through their first years of teaching. The program has three specific goals:

  1. to support our alumni who are first- or second-year teachers

  2. to build a lifelong and continuing support of our teachers in the field

  3. to affect the declining percentages related to new teacher retention

Partnerships

The School of Education has cultivated mutually beneficial relationships with several local public school districts. Teachers and administrators in these districts regularly participate in purposefully developed events and professional development workshops. Many serve on the School of Education’s Advisory Council, collaborate on projects aimed at improving P-12 student learning and achievement, and serve as mentors to candidates in our academic programs.

In addition to the numerous long-standing partnerships we have with area school districts, we have special professional development relationships with Side by Side Charter School, Metropolitan Business Academy and Fair Haven School in Connecticut. These partnerships enhance new teacher preparation, strengthen faculty development opportunities, facilitate inquiry directed at the improvement of practice and enhance student achievement. These partnerships also enable our students to experience the complexity and challenges of urban school settings.

Our partner districts include:

  • Bethany Public Schools
  • Cheshire Public Schools
  • Hamden Public Schools
  • New Haven Public Schools
  • North Branford Public Schools
  • North Haven Public Schools
  • Orange Public Schools
  • Wallingford Public Schools
