The Quinnipiac University in New York City program gives School of Communications students the opportunity to live, learn and intern in the media capital of the world. Students gain hands-on experience at innovative communications and media companies, network with industry professionals and explore all that the city has to offer, ultimately setting themselves up for future success in the city that never sleeps.

Program Overview

Quinnipiac students have the unique opportunity to spend a semester in NYC learning from industry professionals, interning at leading media companies and getting a feel for the bustling atmosphere of one of the greatest cities in the world.

Based in one of the most vibrant communications hubs in the world, QU in NYC offers students a unique experience as they learn directly from industry professionals and live in the center of the action. By interning at leading media companies and communications agencies, students will gain valuable insight and practical experience that will set the pace for their future careers. Beyond the classroom and their internships, students will continue to learn from the diverse cultural and artistic backdrop of the city. Being more than just an educational opportunity, this program allows students to discover the essence of the city and become equipped with knowledge and hands-on experiences to be a leader in the entertainment industry.

There are over 1,100 School of Communications alumni in the NYC area. From HBO and ESPN to L’Oréal and PlayBill, our alumni work for some of the industry's leading companies and help bring the Bobcat spirit to media giants. Many Quinnipiac students have also had the opportunity to intern at NYC-based offices, allowing them to get a taste of the Big Apple.

What to know before you go

Ready to take a bite out of the Big Apple? We're with you!

Throughout your time in the city, you will be supported by fellow students and Quinnipiac staff. You will get to explore all that the city has to offer and participate in a variety of immersive activities alongside your peers. Quinnipiac staff will always be able to put you in touch with any of the personal and professional resources you may need.

Here are a few additional things to know before you dive into an experience you will never forget:

During the QU in NYC program, you will be experiencing the city life around-the-clock as you live for a semester in the heart of the action. Students are responsible for securing their own housing in a location that suits them. EHS is the recommended housing provider although students are welcome to locate their own accommodations.

The QU in NYC program is designed to add to your educational journey here at Quinnipiac. Students will continue their studies online throughout their semester in the city and stay on track to graduate on time. 

Students should plan to complete 3 to 6 internship credits. That means students can do one 240-hour internship or two, 120-hour internships. The remainder of the credits should be completed through online classes.

Students should meet with their academic advisers to discuss the course plan if they will be in NYC. 

Program Requirements

The Quinnipiac University in New York City program allows you to gain professional experience and set yourself up for future success in the city that never sleeps.

Currently enrolled Quinnipiac juniors and seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA and 57 completed credits are eligible to attend the QU in NYC program after their sophomore year. Undergraduate students must have successfully completed COM 201 prior to the start of the semester. Graduate students are also eligible to participate in the QU in NYC program. At the moment, this program is offered during the fall semester only.
