Music is more than a subject for academic study, an art form or a casual pastime. It is a great passion and universal language shared by all of the world’s cultures. The Minor in Music teaches you music history and theory, as well as the rudiments of composition.
Program Overview
The studio component in the music program enables you to explore music as an avenue for your own artistic expression through lessons in an instrument of your choosing. Depending on your level of interest, you’ll have the option to participate in one of the university’s undergraduate performing ensembles.
While the minor makes you a more sophisticated listener and practitioner of music, it also presents it as an interdisciplinary art form that compliments the study of other visual performing arts and academic disciplines. Its influence is continuously felt in historical and literary developments, while its importance to cultural identity, race and even cognitive development make it particularly enriching to many social science fields.
