An ABA-Approved Introduction to Legal Studies

The Minor and Certificate in Legal Studies program is approved by the American Bar Association as a paralegal program. While there is no official licensure or certification to become a paralegal, students receive a notation on their transcripts that demonstrates their completion of a program that meets the rigorous standards of the ABA for paralegal education. While paralegals may not give legal advice to clients or appear in court on their behalf, these highly skilled professionals perform a wide range of tasks and play an integral role in the delivery of legal services.

In this program, you’ll analyze legal problems, conduct research and write a properly formatted legal memo and other correspondence. You will hone your written and oral communication skills and be able to present a coherent, well-supported legal argument.

The minor is planned and taught by lawyers to provide students with a solid grounding in the fundamentals of the legal system. A combination of classwork and real-world experience prepares legal studies certificate students for a broad range of professional opportunities.
