Our BA in History provides students with the historical context and framework they need to teach the next generation, advise government agencies, advance political and legal policies or guide companies into new eras. With an emphasis on critical thinking, students develop skills in gathering sources, interpreting research, analyzing evidence, crafting arguments and writing clearly while exploring how the past influences our present and future.
Program Overview
History majors gain a complex understanding of past events that is critical for comprehending the world in which we live and work. Studying history helps students appreciate their place in society by providing them with a deeper understanding of the connection between the past and the present, a better awareness of the variety of human experiences, and a more comprehensive understanding of the rich diversity of cultures. Through hands-on coursework and experiential learning, students explore specific periods in world history and consider how we can better understand these periods through a complex web of relationships.
Our program is flexible, allowing students to enjoy the freedom to complete electives covering unique topics such as witchcraft beliefs and superstitions in early modern Europe, the history and culture of the Korean peninsula, and conflicts over borders in the Middle East and South Asia. The critical thinking skills, problem-solving expertise and expanded cultural awareness gained through this program prepare students for success in their chosen field. While many graduates continue to pursue master's and doctoral programs in law and education, others secure desirable roles as historians, museum curators, librarians and grant writers,or devote themselves to specific causes such as environmental studies and sustainability.
