Scholarship | $2,000 | Quinnipiac University

The Professor Kathleen Simione / M&T Bank Center for Women and Business Scholarship is a $2,000 award open to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Quinnipiac University business programs who are participants in M&T Bank Center for Women and Business programs and/or who demonstrate an interest in advancing inclusive professional opportunities in business, with a particular focus on supporting women and their allies in the workplace.

About the Scholarship

The mission of the M&T Bank Center for Women and Business is to advance research and deliver programs that foster professional resilience, well-being and connection for lives and careers. Through partnerships and community, the Center equips women and their allies to lead and drive lasting impact in organizations and beyond.

Eligibility
  • Open to all students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate business programs at Quinnipiac University.

  • Must be pursuing a business degree and demonstrate strong academic engagement and leadership potential in the business field.

  • Undergraduate and graduate students must be matriculated in Fall 2026.

  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.

  • Open to both full-time and part-time students.

  • Demonstrated financial need (FAFSA required).

  • Previous Kathleen Simione Women and Business Scholarship recipients are not eligible.

Selection Criteria

In alignment with the mission of the M&T Bank Center for Women and Business, scholarship recipients will demonstrate:

  • An interest in promoting professional opportunities for women in business, which may be evidenced through academic coursework, internships or employment, student organizations, mentoring experiences, leadership roles or thoughtful engagement with issues of equity, leadership and inclusion in business settings

  • Outstanding potential in the business field, reflected through academic performance, professional or experiential learning, initiative, ethical judgment, problem-solving ability or leadership capacity

  • A commitment to supporting women and their allies in the workplace, demonstrated through inclusive leadership practices, collaboration, mentorship, advocacy or intentional efforts to foster equitable and supportive professional environments

Outstanding potential may be demonstrated in multiple ways; there is no single pathway or profile required.

Essay Evaluation

Applicant essays will be evaluated holistically to assess alignment with the mission of the M&T Bank Center for Women and Business, clarity of professional goals and thoughtful engagement with inclusive leadership in business. Reviewers will look for evidence of how applicants understand and intend to contribute to professional environments that support women and their allies, as demonstrated through past experiences, current commitment, or future aspirations. There is no single correct response; strong essays will reflect intentionality, self-awareness and a clear connection between the applicant’s goals and the values of the Center.

Awardee Engagement

The scholarship recipient is expected to actively represent the M&T Bank Center for Women and Business following receipt of the award, including participation in at least two Fall Open Houses or other Center-related engagement opportunities.

About Professor Kathleen Simione

Professor Kathleen Simione earned her MBA from Quinnipiac University and a BS in Accounting from Bentley University. She holds a registered CPA certificate in Connecticut and is an Emeritus Associate Professor of Accounting. Her primary teaching area was management accounting. Prior to entering academia, she worked in both public and private accounting. Her research has examined a variety of accounting and auditing issues, topics in business education and the role of mentoring in the workplace and in student life. Her work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Accounting and Finance Research, Career Development International and Journal of Applied Research in Higher Education. Professor Simione is a 2011 Excellence in Teaching Award winner and a 2014 James Marshall Service Award winner. She is a co-founder and former Director of the Center for Women and Business at Quinnipiac University and is now Director Emerita of the M&T Bank Center for Women and Business.

In recognition of Professor Simione’s leadership and advocacy for gender equity and inclusive excellence, this scholarship supports students—women and allies alike—who seek to advance equitable opportunity and forward-thinking leadership within the business community.

This scholarship is made possible through investment income generated by the M&T Bank Center for Women and Business endowment and through generous contributions from friends, family, community members, faculty, staff, students and alumni.
