Overview of Listening Labs
What is the goal of Listening Labs?
Participants share and listen to each other in structured, time-limited labs. Trained Listening Lab Leaders provide prompts to give students parameters around what to share and step-by-step guidance for how to be a deeper listener.
What Listening Labs offer
-
A caring approach to learn the skills of authentic listening and sharing
-
An opportunity to be heard
-
An opportunity to connect
Listening Labs are not group therapy but they are also not a space for informal small talk.
Listening Labs are a designed and guided experience for students to learn the skills of authentic listening and sharing, all with the goal of connecting students and giving them an opportunity to be truly heard.
Why is Quinnipiac launching Listening Labs?
Our world is facing an unprecedented loneliness epidemic. A recent Meta-Gallup survey across 140+ countries indicates that around 25% of the world's population feels notably lonely. Among young people, this issue intensifies, as a recent study reports that a staggering two-thirds of 33,000 college students describe themselves as grappling with loneliness and isolation.
The Listening Labs initiative has been pioneered in partnership with Mindfulness Consulting to address the pressing need for authentic connection among students by providing a structured yet open space for students to be heard, connect deeply and enhance their listening skills.
