Trevor Robert Tivey

Assistant Professor of Biology

Dr. Trevor Tivey is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Quinnipiac University. He received his B.Sc. in Biology and B.A. in Music at Brown University in Providence, RI, before completing his Ph.D. in Integrative Biology at Oregon State University, and post-doctoral training at Cornell University and Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research in Ithaca, NY. Dr. Tivey currently teaches in the Human Anatomy and Physiology series.

Dr. Tivey is primarily interested in the cellular and molecular landscape of host-microbe interactions, a field which has important implications for ecosystem dynamics, agricultural productivity, and human health. His lab currently utilizes two model systems, the model sea anemone Aiptasia to study coral-dinoflagellate symbiosis, and the model legume Medicago truncatula to study arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis. These two systems offer complementary approaches to studying nutritional symbioses, and provide opportunities to explore a wide range of questions involving host-microbe interactions. His current research focuses on the process of how symbionts colonize their hosts, examining processes both at the cellular and molecular level across the spatial landscape within the host organism.
