Professor of Business Analytics and Information Systems
Dr. Parks teaches courses in Information Systems and Business Analytics and leverages the practical insights she gained from working over ten years holding several IT positions (Business Analytics and Data Warehousing, Oracle Database Administrator, Systems Analyst/Developer and IT Director) within the Department of Defense, NBC Universal Studios, as well as her own consulting firm. Students taking Dr. Parks courses (such as Database Programming and Design, Data Warehousing, Data visualization, Healthcare analytics, mobile app development, and Python) have competed in IT and international data analytics competitions and have qualified as finalists and/or won honorable mentions. Twice she received the Graduation and Retention Advocate Award at her prior institution which is an award by the Provost for dedicated services in helping students be successful in obtaining their academic degree. She also received an innovation grant from the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost at Quinnipiac for her efforts in establishing dynamic, industry-course partnerships in Business Analytics supporting students' practical learning.
Dr. Parks' research focuses on information privacy, data analytics, and health informatics. She has published her work in premier academic journals such as the European Journal of Information Systems, International Journal of Medical Informatics, Computers & Education, Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education; as well as in leading conferences such the Americas Conference on Information Systems, the International Conference on Information Systems, and the Decision Science Institute. Her research has been nominated and awarded internationally-competitive research awards, including:
- Operational Research Society's Stafford Beer Award. The Stafford Beer Medal was awarded in London, England in recognition of the most outstanding contribution to the philosophy, theory or practice of Information Systems published in the European Journal of Information Systems within the relevant year.
- Diana Forsythe Award. This is an award by the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) for the best paper that exemplifies the spirit and scholarship of Diana Forsythe's work at the intersection of informatics and social sciences.
Dr. Parks takes pride in serving her profession and community. Since 2008, she has been an active member of The PhD Project which is a business doctoral mentoring program dedicated to increasing minority representation in the business world. She served as President of the PhD Project Information Systems Doctoral Students Association (ISDSA) in 2011-2012 and currently serves as a faculty mentor.
Dr. Parks is as an Associate Editor (AE) to a premier journal in her field, the Information Systems Journal. She also served a four-year term as a board member and membership director for the EDSIG Conference on Information Systems and Computing Education. Among other services at Quinnipiac University, Dr. Parks developed an application to help synthesize and automate Student Evaluations of Teaching (SET) for the School of Business. She also served as the Director of Data across the curriculum.
Dr. Parks speaks five languages (English, French, Arabic, Spanish and Italian) and working on two more (Chinese and Hebrew)!
