Phil Robert Martinez, Jr.

A graduate of the University of New Haven with a bachelor's degree in law enforcement science (1999), Philip Martinez changed his career path and enrolled in Yale School of Nursing's Graduate Entry Prespecialty in Nursing (GEPN) program, earning a certificate in nursing in 2002, a MSN as an acute care nurse practitioner in 2006, and a Doctor of Education degree from Southern Connecticut State University in 2015. His dissertation studied the academic impact of pre-requisite coursework on accelerated nursing students. He is an American Nurses Credentialing Center board certified acute care nurse practitioner and holds certifications as a critical care registered nurse and cardiac medicine certifications from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Phil has served on the board of commissioners for the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), completing his service with a two-year term as chair of the board of commissioners. He has also served as co-chair of the accreditation review committee and continues to serve as a member of the report review committee and team leader at CCNE.

Dr. Martinez has a long career in teaching nursing in BSN, MSN, and doctoral programs and believes in teaching both the art and science of nursing. He currently is an Associate Clinical Professor in Nursing at Quinnipiac University. In addition, Dr. Martinez holds a clinical position as an acute care nurse practitioner in the department of pulmonary & critical care medicine at Middlesex Hospital. Phil has been the recipient of the Middlesex Hospital family practice medicine's support person and nurse of the year awards and recognized as an innovator in advanced practice nursing. Martinez is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the National League for Nursing, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Heart Association Council on Cardiopulmonary, Critical Care, Perioperative and Resuscitation, and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
