Luis O. Arata is a Professor of Modern Languages in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Quinnipiac University. His teaching, research, and learning has remained interdisciplinary. Born in Argentina, he completed a double major in Physics and Mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh, was awarded a full fellowship on the Physics Ph.D. program at Stony Brook University, then completed a Ph.D. in Romance Studies at Cornell University. He was awarded a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris to pursue research in theatre. Founded a theatre company. Wrote and produced four plays. Co-produced a collective creation play performed on fire escapes in New York City. Was awarded two Visiting Faculty Fellowships at Yale University and four residences at the Santa Fe Institute, all involving interdisciplinary research. He has over forty scholarly publications. His current research interest is in how we model the world through arts and sciences to enhance living in our environments. An avid trail runner, he won in his age group a 50K ultra marathon and loves to run mountain trails on Sleeping Giant.
