Prior to becoming a nurse, Dr. Vallespir Ellett worked various careers, including, Business Communications, Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. She transitioned to nursing as a second career while living in Syracuse, New York. Throughout her more than 20 years in nursing, Dr. Vallespir Ellett, has served in several perinatal nursing positions that include perinatal education, lactation, and nursing leadership. She is graduate of the Florence Downs PhD program at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing and holds a master's degree in education from The American University. Her research interests focus on promoting healthy transitions to new parenting through education. Her passion is to empower families to make optimal health care decisions that meet their values and needs. She is an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant, as well as a Lamaze-certified childbirth educator and has served as chair of continuing education for Lamaze International. She currently serves as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Perinatal Education and has recently worked with a core group of Lamaze members to revise the Evidence Based Labor Support Workshop for Nurses.
