Emily McCave, PhD, MSW, LCSW is Professor of Social Work in the Quinnipiac MSW Program. She areas of teaching include beginning direct practice with individuals and families; cultural humility and anti-oppressive social work, social welfare and social policy; theories of human behavior; and serves a field liaison for students in their first year field placements.

Emily McCave's professional background is focused on mental health treatment to individuals and families. She specializes in working with children with trauma. Her scholarship areas have focused on the importance of prevention and public health approaches to social work, promoting sexual and reproductive health, providing affirmative practice to LGBTQ populations, and innovations in interprofessional healthcare education. She regularly supervises medical students in their capstone research projects who have similar research interests. She has also served as the program evaluator for the WV Healthy Start Program, whose goal is to reduce infant mortality.

Outside of her work as a professor, she is a certfied Mental Health First Aid trainer and regularly provides training both within the university and in surrounding communities. Emily McCave is the former President of the Southern CT Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. In that capacity, she coordinated the Hamden Out of the Darkness Walk for three years, with the last year raising over $100,000 for national and local suicide prevention efforts.
