Assistant Professor of History
Christina Dickerson received the B.A. in history from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia in 2004, Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. During her junior year, she spent one semester studying abroad at the University of Warwick in Coventry, England. She entered the Ph.D. program in history at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee in 2005. She earned her M.A. in 2007 and completed her Ph.D. in 2011. Between 2012 and 2017, she taught history at Cumberland County College in Vineland, New Jersey and at Gateway Community College in New Haven, Connecticut.
In 2017, Dickerson began at Quinnipiac University as a Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of History and Geography. In 2019, she received promotion to Assistant Professor, a tenure-track position. Dickerson teaches U.S. history, African American history, and Native American history. She has given presentations for Quinnipiac's Black History Month and Women's History Month celebrations. She serves as the faculty advisor for Quinnipiac University's Indigenous Student Union.
Dickerson's book, BLACK INDIANS AND FREEDMEN: THE AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH AND INDIGENOUS AMERICANS, 1816-1916, was published by the University of Illinois Press in December 2021. Dickerson has also published articles in ETHNOHISTORY, METHODIST HISTORY, and the OXFORD RESEARCH ENCYCLOPEDIA OF AFRICAN HISTORY.
