Candice K. Travis
Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science
Candice K. Travis is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science at QU, teaching courses in political theory and American politics. Her research centers on white nationalism and conspiracy theory in American politics, and she analyzes the language and behavior of political actors in right-wing groups. She shows how some right-wing groups, like the Proud Boys, rely on nostalgia to describe their desire to restore ‘a spirit of Western chauvinism' in the United States. She also shows how conspiratorial thinking animates violent right-wing groups, binds them together in loose coalitions, and draws in an ever-greater number of supporters who might not otherwise openly express white nationalist, violent, and/or racist right-wing beliefs.
Professor Travis completed her Ph.D. at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she taught courses in Political Science and Community Engagement until coming to QU.
