If you want a career that will enable you to help people recuperate from surgery, painful injuries or life-altering health conditions, Quinnipiac’s physical therapy program will put you on a clear path to your goal from day one — preparing you to work as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team including doctors, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists. 

We offer two unique pathways for entry into the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program: early-assurance for first-year college students and post-baccalaureate for students who have already earned a bachelor's degree. 

Through the curriculum, you'll practice and learn in state-of-the-art facilities, including our Human Anatomy Lab, Standardized Patient Assessment Center, Clinical Practice Labs, the EQUIP Pro Bono Clinic and Motion Analysis Laboratory, ensuring clinical reasoning and competency across all areas of clinical practice and research.

Your pathway to physical therapy

Students interested in becoming physical therapists will need to earn a doctorate prior to taking the national certification exam and earning licensure. The School fo Health Sciences offers two pathways for students to enter the profession, depending on your point of entry.

  • Students with Undergraduate Degrees

Early Assurance Dual-Degree Program

Our early assurance dual degree program provides high-school graduates with the knowledge and skills you need to take the national certification exam and become a licensed physical therapist. This 6-7 year program includes both undergraduate plan of study (3 or 4 years) culminating in a BS in Health Science Studies as well as a graduate pathway leading to the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (3 years). 

Our program is one of only a few offered in the country where qualified applicants are admitted as first-year students. If you meet all the academic requirements throughout your undergraduate years, you will be guaranteed a seat in the graduate portion of the program. 

BS in Health Science Studies / Doctor of Physical Therapy (3+3 or 4+3)

Undergraduate Experience (BS in Health Science Studies)

Our undergraduate curriculum is specifically designed to prepare you for the graduate physical therapy program. You will study human movement and explore methods of maintaining healthy movement and assessment of movement. 

Upon successful completion of your BS in Health Science Studies, and after meeting specific program requirements, you are guaranteed admission to the graduate accredited DPT program. 

Graduate Experience (Doctor of Physical Therapy)

Building upon your strong undergraduate foundations of math and science, along with variety of experience in movement science and human movement, you will successfully transition to your graduate portion of study for the three year Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
