Beginning August 1, Hartford HealthCare Medical Group (HHC), one of the state’s most comprehensive health systems, will replace Quinnipiac as the provider of on-campus student health services for Quinnipiac students.
This brings extensive added depth in healthcare expertise and resources to support students’ healthcare needs and gives families peace of mind that their student is receiving excellent care when needed away from home.
Key benefits of having health services administered by HHC include:
- Daily prescription deliveries directly to campus;
- Access to a broad network of over 3,000 HHC physicians and specialists, including primary and urgent care, behavioral health, physical therapy and rehabilitative services, and sports medicine;
- Use of a mobile health app and nationally connected electronic heath record that will improve how care is coordinated, including connectivity to medical records with a student’s home physician.
Care providers in the university's Student Health Services Center will be employees of HHC and be considered part of the HHC network of providers beginning on August 1. Most health insurance plans accept HHC as an in-network provider, including Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Connecticare, Health New England, Multiplan, UnitedHealthcare and Wellcare. Please call your carrier to confirm participation.
A new home for Student Health Services
The university is excited to announce that the Student Health Services wing of its new, state-of-the-art Recreation and Wellness Center will open in mid-August on the Mount Carmel Campus as a place that supports students’ total health and well-being. Other portions of the building are expected to open in October, including a gym and exercise studios, spaces for health education and wellness programming, and an outdoor rain garden and amphitheater.
Take a look around the new facility
This new home for Student Health Services will provide more than double the space for clinical and counseling services than exists in the current facility on Bobcat Way. The clinic will be operated by HHC and offer medical exam rooms, private counseling rooms and counseling group meeting spaces, triage rooms, and separate waiting rooms for medical care and counseling services.
Health insurance requirements and billing
Medical services received in Student Health Services will be billed to the student’s insurance company by HHC and covered in accordance with the terms and conditions of the student’s insurance plan, including applicable copays, deductibles and coinsurance. Students should make sure they have a printed copy of their insurance card when they go to Student Health Services for care.
-
If a student’s health plan has a copay, the copay will be collected at the time of the visit. However, Quinnipiac will cap all copays at $15* and pay the difference if any student’s insurance plan has a copay higher than $15.
-
Students can request that counseling services and reproductive health services provided by HHC on campus are NOT billed to their insurance plan, and QU will cover the cost instead. There is no copay for these services.
For specific questions about your insurance plan and coverage, or to determine if HHC’s services will be considered in network, please contact your health plan directly and ask your carrier whether Hartford HealthCare Medical Group (TIN #37-1911194) is in its network.
Please sign your consent forms
Students will receive two emails later this week from Quinnipiac University with links to two healthcare consent forms to be signed electronically. These forms authorize release of a student’s medical records from Quinnipiac’s Student Health Services Center to HHC to ensure HHC care providers have access to medical records at the time a student seeks services in the on-campus clinic, which will expedite treatment times and improve the overall coordination of care. The university is requesting all students complete the two consent forms by August 17.
