Prospective Bobcats joined Quinnipiac students, faculty and staff on the Mount Carmel Campus for hands-on demonstrations, academic information sessions, break-out discussions and campus and facility tours including the York Hill Campus and North Haven Campus.
They gathered in the Recreation and Wellness Center for a very special welcome event, visited a showcase of student clubs and organizations in the Burt Kahn Court and came together on the Quad for a catered lunch and food truck treats.
Chief Experience Officer Tom Ellett said Quinnipiac was honored to welcome the huge group of accomplished student leaders selected for admission from over 25,000 applications this year.
“We are so glad to have you join us here today to celebrate your acceptance to Quinnipiac,” Ellett said.
Ellett noted that among many impressive national rankings, Quinnipiac has been ranked as the nation’s best college for post-graduate employment for the fifth year in a row by the career site Zippia.com
“I know in the crowd today we have some students who have already committed and there are still some deciding where they want to go," said Ellett. "Wherever you are in your journey, I hope that you will take advantage of today’s opportunity to become a future Bobcat. Talk to students and faculty and get an understanding of our outstanding academic programs that differentiate Quinnipiac from other institutions."
Quinnipiac students learn by example through many university experiences and opportunities which support co-creation. First-year and second-year students become imbued in the Quinnipiac community as residents of the beautiful, spacious Mount Carmel Campus. They are supported by highly engaged faculty, state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge courses as they pursue their academic interests.
“It’s a world-class education inside of an institution that students get to know as they’re learning,” said Ellett.
Ellet joined Quinnipiac five years ago and works with all student-facing operations. He and his wife, Assistant Professor of Nursing Gladys Vallespir Ellett, live on the Mount Carmel Campus at the Commons student residences.
“At the end of today’s experience, I hope you will find what I have found,” Ellett said. “There’s an immense sense of belonging and genuine care at every level of the institution. As you explore our campuses, you will see that Quinnipiac is a special place — a place that you will be proud to call home.”
Quinnipiac will be home next year to Daniel Greff of Long Island, New York. He plans to pursue an accelerated dual degree at the School of Communications to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in public relations.
“The 3+1 program is kind of a no-brainer because I’m going to be able to get my master’s degree in four years,” said Greff. “And Quinnipiac just called my name. The campus is beautiful and everyone is so nice. Today, I got to speak with students and three of the professors from the School of Communications, and it was just amazing.”
Greff’s mom, Kelly Sanchez, said she is thrilled with her son’s decision.
“The 3+1 program is what brought us to Quinnipiac for an open house back in November. Literally from the moment he stepped out of the car, he just felt at home. It was probably one of the most important feelings a mom could have,” said Sanchez. “Everybody he’s spoken to has been so friendly and open with information and answering questions. It’s been a wonderful experience so far and it hasn’t even begun.”
Rhode Island resident Terrence Eber came to Quinnipiac for a visit in the fall and returned with his family on April 6. Eber said his Admitted Student Experience was helping him to strongly consider officially becoming a Bobcat.
“We like Quinnipiac’s academic focus,” said his dad, Darlington Eber. “The school’s well-ranked, the campus is nice and the student body was very welcoming.”
Ava Mansueto of Hauppauge, New York will pursue an accelerated dual degree in Quinnipiac’s sports management program and will join the Bobcat athletics family as a member of the women’s lacrosse team.
“I love it here. As soon as I stepped on campus, I loved the whole vibe and family feel. Everyone is so welcoming and nice,” said Mansueto.
“I’m excited for her,” said her mom, Maryanna Cameron. “I think she made the right decision. The surroundings are beautiful and it’s a great school academically. I think she’s going to love being here and playing lacrosse here.”
Anna Westberg of Killingworth, Connecticut said she clinched her decision to become a Bobcat before coming out to enjoy her Accepted Student Experience. She’s looking forward to beginning her academic journey studying nursing at Quinnipiac.
“It’s not too far from home, I really like the community and Quinnipiac has a really good School of Nursing,” said Westberg.
Matthew Flaherty of Simsbury, Connecticut said he’s excited to become a Bobcat next year as an undergraduate student in Quinnipiac’s new Bachelor of Arts in Sports Communications program. The new School of Communications program will welcome its first students in the fall of 2025.
“I really love the opportunities Quinnipiac has to offer. I’m really interested in a lot of the clubs and activities and working in a lot of the areas in the school, like the podcast room and Q30 studio,” said Flaherty.
“We’re happy for him because of the excitement of the new sports communication program,” said his dad, Jed Flaherty. “Quinnipiac’s not too far from home, but far enough so he’ll get that experience and it seems like there are a lot of new opportunities.”
Mom Jessica Flaherty said it’s reassuring to know her son feels at home at Quinnipiac.
“The first time he stepped on campus a year ago, he said ‘This is where I want to go.’ We visited other schools and he just kept coming back to feeling like Quinnipiac was the right place. The sports communications program clinched the deal,” she said. “And you always hear wonderful things about Quinnipiac. Everyone I meet who’s gone here has had an amazing experience.”
Future Bobcat Melanie Arcos said she made her final decision to come to Quinnipiac just a few days before arriving on the Mount Carmel Campus on April 6 from her home in Long Island, New York.
“I want to go into occupational therapy. I’ve done an insane amount of research and it just kept coming back to Quinnipiac,” said Arcos. “I came here a little over a year ago for my first visit and I also did the OT experience for a day on the North Haven Campus last month. I looked at other schools, but I kind of knew in the back of my mind the whole time that I wanted to come here. I’m genuinely so excited.”
Mom Evelyn Arcos said she was thrilled with her daughter’s decision to become a Bobcat.
“Seeing that smile on her face says it all. She really did a lot of research to find the best academically driven program and of all the schools she looked into, Quinnipiac checked off all the boxes,” said Arcos.
