Parents and Families Update: October 2025

A Great Time to Be a Bobcat

October 30, 2025

Marie Hardin and two students hold ice cream cups and pose for a selfie

Our students have been enjoying the beautiful autumn weather here in Connecticut. It is finally starting to cool down, and just like that, we’ve already passed the half-way mark of the semester!

Resources

We kicked off our month of community and celebration surrounding the Inauguration of President Marie Hardin and Bobcat Weekend.

Video: See Inuaguration in a Quinnipiac minute

Highlights included: Hike the Giant, Bobcat Stride morning walk, a Roaring 5K, an ice cream tour and, of course, the Inauguration ceremony held at our M&T Arena, where faculty, staff, students and our surrounding neighbors were all warmly welcomed.

Our men’s hockey team hosted two home games during Bobcat weekend-both played in front of sold-out crowds — with hundreds more at a lively watch party on our Mount Carmel Campus.

Video: See Bobcat Weekend in a Quinnipiac Minute

The following weekend was our annual Boomer’s Boo Bash, hosted by our student-athletes, student clubs and student organizations. Local families were invited to the Quad for treats (no tricks!), games, giveaways and more! We also held our third annual Breakfast in Bed 1929 Fundraiser where students delivered breakfast via golf-carts to residential hall rooms.

Common Hour has become a well-attended addition to Mount Carmel Campus. With five more weeks of programming ahead, students can look forward to events such as: global voices: stories from around the world, Lynn Marlerba from the Mohegan Tribe, Dennis Mannion, a veteran from the Vietnam war, keys to acing your exams, Resident Assistant information sessions, counseling center sessions to help students with stress and other issues, cooking workshops, mastering time management, preparing for an interview workshop, our ongoing Listening Lab sessions, and more events added weekly. Learn about these events and more at QU.edu/commonhour

We will be hosting our third and final Talks on the Rocks dinner of the semester on November 17. Please encourage your Bobcat to register. Dinner is always delicious! RSVP link will be sent out two weeks prior. It’s a full buffet dinner, free of charge for students who RVSP and attend.

When chatting with students, some will say, “There’s so much to do on campus,” while others note, “I wish there was more to do.” To help students stay informed, please remind them to check the TV screens located in classrooms, the student centers, and most residence halls. These screens display all upcoming athletic events, many student activities, and even some off-campus partner events. Additionally, the “what’s happening this weekend” flyer gets posted in all Mount Carmel residence halls.

There are so many opportunities to get involved each week. I hope your student is actively engaging with their peers; students who feel connected are more likely to thrive academically. If your student hasn’t found their community yet and needs support, we’re here to help. Feel free to reach out to me directly if I can assist in helping them find their “people” on campus.

And a few more quick notes:

  • Undergraduate registration for the spring semester is underway. Have your Bobcat check their MyQ portal for updates.

  • If your student has received Federal Work-Study and is still looking for a job, we are here to assist. They can view current openings our website here.

  • With election day around the corner, remind your student that voting is easy as 1,2,3… Check your voter registration, research your ballet, find your polling location (or request an absentee ballot).

Finally, I’d like to thank the Parent’s Advisory Board for their ongoing support, providing input on student life, supporting campus initiatives, and serving as ambassadors who help bridge the gap between the university, families and students.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me or any of the staff at Quinnipiac.

Warm regards,
Tom Ellett
Chief Experience Officer (cxo@qu.edu)

Student Experience and Engagement

Our student organizations have been busy this semester, hosting more than 500 programs with 20,000-plus total participants. This semester, our office has introduced 16 new organizations with which your student can get involved. Among the newest clubs: Cheese Club, Meditation Club, Dungeons and Dragons, Visual Arts and more! To learn more about the student organization events and how to join, students are encouraged to visit Bobcat Central.

The Student Programming Board will host their two weeklong program events in October and November. Halloweek runs through Saturday and Winter Week runs from December 2 to 5! Make sure to follow @quspb on Instagram for more information.

Fraternity and Sorority Life

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is a vibrant piece of campus life where almost 20% of students choose to become members. Membership offers community, avenues for service and philanthropy, lifelong friends and fun! The all-FSL GPA is consistently higher than the all-undergraduate GPA, and our members perform more than 9,350 hours of hands-on service each year. Members of fraternity and sororities raised an impressive $221,000-plus for philanthropic causes locally and across the country during the last academic year.

We’ve welcomed more than 400 new members into our community this semester.

Our recognized fraternities on campus are: Alpha Sigma Phi; Beta Theta Pi; Delta Upsilon; Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc.; Phi Delta Theta; Pi Kappa Phi; Sigma Phi Epsilon; Tau Kappa Epsilon; and Zeta Beta Tau.

If your student is interested in a group that is not included, please reach out to the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to confirm it is a recognized group.

We have two new groups exploring and looking for interested members:

  • The first is Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Inc., a multicultural sorority. Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Inc. will be looking for new members until December 1.

  • The second is Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., a historically Black fraternity.

Interested students can reach out via fslife@qu.edu or via Instagram @qufsl.

If your Bobcat wants to find their home away from home, establish a community of peers with similar values, participate in service/philanthropy events, and have fun, feel free to direct them our way for information about joining. Fall recruitment processes are still underway. All questions can be directed to email fslife@qu.edu or via Instagram @qufsl.

Spiritual and Religious Life

Jewish Life

A message from Rabbi Reena g.W Judd:

I hope everyone had a healthy and happy New Year and was able to visit with their Quinnipiac student over Bobcat Weekend. It was really wonderful meeting the parents and family who participated in our shabbat experience here at the Hereld House.

Students are tired as it is now mid-terms and soon it will be Thanksgiving; time goes so quickly. We continue to gather, grow and laugh together. If there is anything I can do for anyone, please reach out. I will do my best to be of help.

With much shalom, Rabbi Reena 😊

Health & Wellness

Wellness Wednesday

A reminder that Wellness Wednesday is EVERY week from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the RecWell lobby for in-person conversation and resources as well as a weekly email that each student receives in their inbox (great resources if they cannot get to the table in person).

Mental Health First Aid training is being offered

We are pleased to announce Mental Health First Aid will be offered for students, staff and faculty this fall.  Mental health first aid is an evidence-based, early-intervention course that teaches participants about mental health and substance use challenges. Counseling Services

This month, we hosted Fresh Check Day, a vibrant and interactive event focused on mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Students engaged with faculty, staff, and peer-led booths, wellness activities and resource stations that encouraged open conversations and wellness.

We’re grateful for the support from our campus partners and volunteers who helped make this day meaningful and memorable.

October Outreach Programming

Our team offered several wellness-focused initiatives this month:

  • 1-Minute of Meditation: A quick, calming practice shared across campus to promote mindfulness.

  • Ask a Counselor Sessions: Drop-in opportunities for students to connect with counselors, ask questions, and receive guidance in a relaxed setting.

Counseling Services continues to provide ongoing outreach programming to meet students' needs and current trends. Counseling Services provides in-person and virtual appointments from 9 a.m. to 5 pm. Your students can schedule an appointment by phone 203-407-4020 or online.

Breast Cancer Awareness: Empowering Through Education

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and our partners at Hartford HealthCare emphasize the importance of self-screening and early detection. We provided educational materials and outreach, encouraging students to take proactive steps in their health journey.

We encourage families to continue these conversations at home and utilize resources such as National Breast Cancer Foundation for more information.

Parking and Transportation

Parking

Our athletic season has started and games held in the arena bring many visitors to our campus. Students should check their email regularly for requests to move their vehicle from the York Hill surface lots to the York Hill garage. Failure to comply with requests will result in ticketing and towing.

As a friendly reminder, first-year residential students are not permitted to have vehicles on campus. Residential sophomores must park in York Hill Garage on weekdays. Juniors, seniors and graduate students may only park in the lots assigned to their parking permit.

All students with vehicles on campus are required to register for a parking permit. We’ve reached the point in the semester where vehicles without valid permits are subject to ticketing and towing.
