With three tracks to choose from – health, legal or data informatics – students can tailor the curriculum to align with their interests.
“The launch of the master's in informatics program at Quinnipiac’s School of Computing and Engineering marks an exciting step forward in preparing our students for the data-driven future,” said Taskin Kocak, dean of the School of Computing and Engineering and professor of computer science.
Two years in the making, this interdisciplinary program was developed by bringing together the schools of Law, Health Sciences, Business and Computing and Engineering to offer a diverse and comprehensive curriculum, Kocak said.
“Informatics is at the heart of innovation across industries, from healthcare and cybersecurity to artificial intelligence,” said Kocak. “This program will equip students with the critical skills to analyze complex data, optimize systems and drive informed decision-making, preparing them to be leaders in an increasingly digital world.”
The two-year, 30-credit graduate program is offered to students and professionals. It will empower them with the skills to design, implement and manage information systems and the expertise to handle data, security and ethics in IT environments.
Balancing a foundational knowledge in programming, ethics and data-driven decision-making with project-based learning and electives in areas of data, health and legal informatics, the curriculum will prepare students from all backgrounds, including those transitioning from non-technical fields. The program also offers a thesis option that prepares students for advanced doctoral studies.
Using a broad and integrative approach, the program delves into computing and database systems and prepares students to apply these tools effectively in the health, legal and data fields. By understanding the relationship between people and data, students will learn to make well-informed decisions in technological and data-driven environments.
Program Director and Associate Professor of Computer Science Chetan Jaiswal said the launch of the master's in informatics program opens doors to new opportunities for students across various disciplines, enabling them to analyze complex data systems and ensure ethical and secure decision-making in fields such as healthcare, legal studies and data informatics.
“Whether they aim to become data analysts, health information specialists or legal technology experts, this program provides them with the skills and knowledge to excel in their chosen fields," said Jaiswal. "In today’s data-driven era, professionals who can interpret, manage and safeguard information are in high demand."
Quinnipiac’s master's in informatics program is led by outstanding faculty who bring years of experience to each lesson and provide close student interaction. Small class sizes and Quinnipiac’s tight-knit community of over 50,000 alumni allow for greater networking opportunities. Program graduates are well-prepared for a variety of career opportunities such as analytical storytelling, data analytics, legal project management and health information management.
“The launch of the master's in informatics program reflects Quinnipiac's commitment to preparing students for the future of work,” Jaiswal said. “With technology shaping every industry, this program provides a unique opportunity for students to develop both technical expertise and industry-specific knowledge, ensuring they graduate with the skills employers are actively seeking.”
Through its unique mix of hands-on projects, collaborative interdisciplinary learning opportunities and exposure to real-world challenges, master's in informatic program graduates will gain the expertise needed to become industry leaders in the information field.
“We are thrilled to offer this opportunity and look forward to seeing the impact our graduates will make,” Kocak said.
