The theater program, directed by Professor Kevin Daly, is jumping right in with its performance of the “Three Sisters,” a play written by Anton Chekhov. This production represents the reemergence of an important and vibrant part of the campus experience.
“What we are most excited about is that this is our first time back in the theater with a live audience since February 2020. We are not just coming in lightly, we are taking on a masterpiece, a very difficult and challenging piece with 14 actors. We’ve hired a professional, G.D. Kimble, in classical acting and directing, equipped with Broadway experience as a professional director and actor,” said Daly.
Running October 29 through November 6, an extended run of the production, the play has showtimes at both 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
“The students are going to be performing for two weeks which is new for us. We usually do one weekend, but we are doing an extended run because we want as many people to come see the play as possible,” said Daly.
All actors are vaccinated and will be tested regularly. Because of this, the actors will be performing without masks and audience members are asked to follow the university’s guidelines, wearing a mask throughout the performance and showing vaccination status at the door.
“We are all still so isolated. Even though we are able to go out and do things, we are doing them in pods, so some people don’t know that the theater program is back and that we exist,” said Daly. “What I want everyone to know is that we are here and we are doing it. I want the whole university and extended community to know that theater is happening again and that it is an important and vibrant part of campus.”
With ticket sales already open and about half already sold out, Daly explained that he encourages people to act fast before the production sells out.
