Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey assistant coach Brent Hill helped lead the United States to a victory over Canada in the gold-medal contest at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games on Thursday.
Hill returned to USA Hockey this year as an assistant coach for the 2025 U.S. Women’s National Team, which captured the world championship in Czechia with an overtime win over Canada. He served in the same role in 2024 and for the gold medal-winning 2023 U.S. Women’s National Team. Now in his sixth year at Quinnipiac, Hill works primarily with the Bobcats’ forwards.
Kati Tabin ’20, who was a co-captain of the Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey team, earned a silver medal for Canada in the same game.
Tabin played four seasons with the Bobcats from 2016 to 2020, totaling 52 points over 141 games. She earned All-ECAC Third Team honors during her senior season in 2020 and led the Bobcats’ defense that year with a career-high 18 points, including five goals and 13 assists.
Tabin became the first alumnus in Quinnipiac history to earn a medal at the Winter Olympics.
Devon Toews ’17, who was an assistant captain of the Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey team, also earned a silver medal for Canada.
Toews, who is also a Stanley Cup champion, represented Hockey Canada for the second time in as many seasons, following his 2025 4 Nations title by competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics for his home country. Toews played in all six games for Canada, finishing with one goal and two assists, as well as a plus-nine rating.
He scored his first Olympic goal against France, tallying the second goal in a 10-2 win. He also added an assist in the quarterfinal — the game-tying goal before Canada went on to win in overtime to advance to the medal round.
Current first-year forward Jade Barbirati ‘29 also competed in the Olympics, skating for France.
Women’s rugby standout Ilona Maher ’18 helped lead the United States rugby sevens squad to the team’s first-ever medal, defeating Australia 14-12 in the bronze-medal match at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
