Students from throughout the Northeast wishing to learn more about the occupational therapy profession are invited to attend a student-run School of Health Sciences conference.

The peer-to-peer event is run by a student-managed executive board and will take place on April 16.

“Student-led events like this allow for its board members to develop different professional skills, advocate for new topics in the field that can be addressed, along with forming different connections with other medical professionals and established practitioners,” said Melissa Mennillo, a second-year student in the occupational therapy program.

This event will feature guest speakers in the profession that will overview new and upcoming areas of focus of the profession, said Mennillo, which will give students the opportunity to better anticipate where the profession is headed.

The guest speakers are:

  • Victoria Garcia-Wilburn, an occupational therapist and candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Indiana
  • Kathryn Ellis, founder of the Institute for Sex, Intimacy and Occupational Therapy
  • Sarah Anderson, who specializes in virtual interactive technologies in occupational therapy-led rehabilitation
