Masresha developed a two-day Veterans Day celebration this week at the Towers at Tower Lane, a senior living community in New Haven, to thank the veterans who live there for their service.
At the event, five World War II Veterans will be honored by the City of New Haven, State of Connecticut and the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs.
“I chose to participate in organizing this event because these veterans have given service to our country as I have in Afghanistan,” said Masresha. “This was my way of thanking them for their service and sacrifice.”
Masresha is currently interning with The Towers. He contributed to this year’s Veteran’s Day event by getting the Proclamations and Commendations by contacting New Haven’s Mayor, Justin Elicker and State Senator, Gary Winfield, to help recognize these five veterans.
Masresha said he has been able to connect his experiences and love for social work with his current internship at the Towers.
“I have been doing advocacy work for veterans and mental health since my return from Afghanistan,” said Masresha. “Here at Quinnipiac, in the master of social work program and at Jewish Family Service, where I am doing my internship, I am inspired by my professors and mentors to continue to grow within the field of social work.”
Masresha said he was thankful for the resources Quinnipiac has provided him with.
“I want to thank Quinnipiac’s master of social work program for connecting me with Jewish Family Service for my internship,” he said. “I also want to thank Jewish Family Service for allowing me to represent them and work with the Towers on this amazing project. I want to thank the Towers and Seasons Hospice for letting me be part of this event in Honoring our Veterans.”
