Explore every trail at Sleeping Giant
Hiking Sleeping Giant State Park — located just across the street from the Mount Carmel Campus — is an essential part of being a Bobcat — but have you checked off all 13 trails comprising the 32 miles of the park? If not, this is the perfect time to embrace your last moments as a Quinnipiac student and admire the beautiful views this Connecticut landmark has to offer, especially the views of the Mount Carmel and York Hill campuses. Take a friend or fly solo for this adventure.
Experience legendary New Haven pizza
New Haven is considered by culinary connoisseurs to be among the best pizza cities in the world. Now is the time to grab a slice at the many legendary restaurants only a few minutes south. Visit Frank Pepe’s, Sally’s, Modern or BAR for an excellent dining experience at these iconic spots.
Enjoy the best college athletics in the country
Winning is fun — and there is a lot of winning to celebrate at Quinnipiac across the university’s 21 Division I sports. This semester, you have the opportunity to cheer on our 14 winter and spring teams nearly every day of the week. No matter which sports you prefer — whether acrobatics and tumbling, baseball, basketball, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, softball, tennis, or track and field — there is a game for everyone. Show off your true school spirit by attending one this season.
Test your knowledge at On The Rocks Pub and Grill
Every Wednesday and Thursday on the York Hill Campus this semester, On The Rocks Pub and Grill is open for students to grab a bite, sip on a beer or play a game of pool. They also often host bingo, trivia nights and live music. On the Rocks accepts meal plans as well as cash and credit cards. At Quinnipiac, you don’t need to travel far to enjoy a night out.
Rock out at Wake the Giant concert
The annual Wake the Giant concert co-hosted by the Student Programming Board and the student-run radio station, WQAQ 98.1 FM, is the perfect event for every Bobcat. Each year, a well-known musical artist or comedian comes to campus for a night of unforgettable entertainment. Some previous headliners included Offset, Blackbear and Khalid. All students are welcome to attend — but be sure to keep an eye on your email for when tickets go on sale. They go fast!
Sing your heart out at karaoke night
Make your way to one of many area resaurants for Thursday karaoke nights with friends. Choose some of your favorite tunes to perform and take the stage to make lasting memories at a local restaurant.
Reach the stars at the Recreation and Wellness Center
The state-of-the-art Recreation and Wellness Center has been open for more than a year and isn’t only for the fitness junkies. If you want to get out of your comfort zone, try a Spinning class, learn to cook or climb the rock wall. Embark on spring adventures this semester, ranging from skiing and whitewater rafting to exploring the West Coast and visiting an alpaca farm. There are also counseling services available daily to connect with professionals about your mental health who can guide you through the struggles of college life.
Unwind on the Quad
As you journey to class each day on the Mount Carmel Campus, you might breeze past the perfectly maintained Quad without a second glance. But this year, seize the opportunity to truly appreciate the beauty of our campus. When the sun comes out and flowers bloom, take advantage of the great space by laying down on a picnic blanket with friends or diving into a new book.
Watch a performance
Drama productions are held year-round at both the Theatre Arts Center and the Clarice L. Buckman Theater. If you are looking to watch a story come to life on the stage, then definitely secure a seat at Buckman or the Black Box this semester. If theatrical plays aren’t suited to your taste, you can still enjoy various musical performances or join the laughter with the student-run improv group, Comic Sans.
Shop at the pop-ups
Dozens of small businesses make appearances on campus throughout the year, and there will be a great number this spring. Whether locally or student-owned, vendors sell unique products from clothing and jewelry to candles and sweets that are perfect for any occasion. If you are looking to buy a gift for a loved one or treat yourself to someone new, head to the multiple pop-up events held in the following months. On Saturday, February 3, a Sip & Shop event will be held to celebrate Black History Month and small businesses owned by people of color.
Explore each of the campuses
With so many nooks and crannies to explore across the three campuses, there's always something new to discover. Before Commencement arrives, take the time to admire the views from York Hill, sit on the Arnold Bernhard Library steps with friends and enjoy the calming nature of the ponds at North Haven. Try to hit the spots that may be unfamiliar to you so that you can see all that Quinnipiac has to offer.
Dance at QTHON
Aside from academic and recreational activities, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities for students to participate in. The student-run philanthropy raises funds and awareness for patients at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. You can dance the night away on your own or with a team to raise money in support of children in the local community. Last year alone, the dance party raised more than $100,000. Don’t miss your final chance to make a difference with QTHON. Mark your calendar: This year's event will take place on March 23.
Volunteer at Big Event
If you don’t think you have the moves for QTHON, perhaps Big Event is more suited to your style. This spring, April 13 marks the largest day of community service at the university, which will draw in more than 1,500 students, faculty, staff and alumni as volunteers. Bobcats will travel to around 100 sites throughou the community to give back and beautify the surrounding neighborhoods.
Take a selfie with Boomer
Our beloved mascot, Boomer the Bobcat, can be seen at games, open houses and all around campus throughout the semester. Don’t be shy to approach him and ask for a selfie! Boomer embodies the spirit of Quinnipiac and spreads joy everywhere he goes, so don’t hesitate to join in on the fun. Next time you spot our iconic Bobcat, snap a selfie with him and your friends that you will cherish beyond graduation.
Grab a bite at a new food truck
When you want to switch up your lunch plans, make your way over to the many food trucks that visit campus each week. From sandwiches to tacos, there are plenty of options to satisfy your appetite during your most hectic days.
Try local breakfast spots
When you’re craving the perfect bagel or latte, dine at one of the many breakfast restaurants or cafes in Hamden. Funcles Café offers a large menu to meet all your coffee, egg and toast needs, while Whitney Donut will tempt your sweet tooth by serving over a dozen different doughnut flavors. Make it a point to support as many local eateries as possible before May hits.
Make connections at a career fair
The spring university-wide career fair will be hosted on February 28 where students are given the opportunity to meet employers and scout out possible career paths. All students are welcome to attend for the opportunity to learn about internships, part-time, summer and entry-level positions. Networking is a key step in planning for life after college, so you won’t want to miss out on this unique event.
Book a photoshoot in front of the library
Many students offer their photography services during Commencement season to capture the special moments in your cap and gown. The Arnold Bernhard Library is the ultimate background to pose with your fellow Bobcats and document your years here.
Indulge in your final spring break
As you approach the end of your journey at Quinnipiac, we challenge you to take advantage of your final week-long spring break from the university. There is no need to roam far to soak in quality time with those you care about. Try something new by renting a cabin for the week with your friends or visiting local parks with your family. Maybe you aren’t a fan of the outdoors, so perhaps you could visit the movie theater with other Bobcats or relax by reading a good book. Make the most of the nine-day-long vacation this year before you begin graduate school or your career.
Get your alumni merch
While many students have their fair share of Quinnipiac-branded sweatshirts, hats and mugs, don’t miss out on collecting specialized alumni merchandise from the bookstore before you leave campus. From diploma displays to license plate frames, there is plenty to choose from.
Have fun at the Commencement Fair
On April 16, the annual Commencement Fair will be held in RecWell for all graduates to not only pick up their caps and gowns, but savor time together with games, raffles, and more. The afternoon is intended to bring joy to the class of 2024 during a typically bittersweet season.
Start a finals study group with your friends
Finals can be a stressful time for many, but that’s what Bobcats are for. Use exam week as an opportunity to bond with your friends and fellow classmates. Studying doesn’t always have to be done in solitude. Maybe book your favorite room in the library or even start an outdoor study group on the Quad. Take advantage of every moment, even spent in academics.
Thank your favorite professors
Your professors helped define your days at Quinnipiac. Invest time in thanking them for how they support you and have gone above and beyond for their students. Once you leave Quinnipiac, you won’t pass by your favorite professors in the halls anymore or be able to chat with them daily, so make it count now. Don’t let the chaos of approaching commencement distract you from giving thanks to those who matter.
2024 Class Toast
This year on April 22, a toast to the Class of 2024 will be held at the Alumni House and Gardens to celebrate the years of dedication and passion of our soon-to-be graduates. Make sure to raise a glass to all you have accomplished in your time as a Bobcat and relish in the festivities.
