Ratnaparkhi and Rao were recognized for their project, “Endometriosis and Time to Fertility Treatment: The Moderating Role of Oral Contraceptive Use.” Their study explores an important aspect of women’s reproductive health, examining how endometriosis can affect the timing of when women seek fertility treatment and the potential role oral contraceptives play in that process.
“Ishani and I are both passionate about women’s health,” Ratnaparkhi said. “While we already knew that endometriosis impacts women’s lives, our research specifically explored how it can lead to delays in the timing of when women begin seeking fertility treatment, and how contraceptive use among women with endometriosis may also affect that timing."
Rao expressed gratitude for the mentorship that guided their work, noting that she and Ratnaparkhi are deeply appreciative of the invaluable support and guidance of their faculty mentors, Jerrica Breindel, associate professor of medical sciences, and Richard Feinn, professor of medical sciences.
The award recognizes outstanding research contributions by medical students across Connecticut. Ratnaparkhi and Rao’s accomplishment underscores Quinnipiac’s commitment to preparing physicians who are not only skilled clinicians but also active contributors to research that improves patient care and outcomes.
“Emma and Ishani exemplify the intellectual curiosity and compassion that define our students,” said Dr. Lisa Coplit, dean of the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine. “Their achievement reflects the strength of our learning environment — one that values discovery, mentorship and a deep commitment to advancing patient care.”
