What started as a middle school hobby became a successful billion-view brand with DJ Ford’s ‘25 urgency to create and deliver results.

Ford’s journey with social media began in middle school where he started to grow a social media following. His passion for production and creativity carried on throughout high school to then Quinnipiac, where he had generated more than one billion views across his content.

“That experience showed me how powerful social media can be in capturing attention and driving results. I didn’t just want to be a creator, instead I wanted to understand the business and strategy behind it. That’s what led me to marketing. I see social media as the future of marketing and I wanted to stay ahead of the curve.”

Seeing that his content strategy was extremely successful, Ford decided to create a content agency, “Less Than Media,” that helps businesses of all sizes in growing through short form videos. His company specializes in platforms like Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, Ford explained.

Ford’s business began with his personal journey as a content creator, producing content that he loved to make and that others loved to watch.

“I had a strong following and had already worked with brands like Champion and American Eagle,” said Ford. “Through those experiences, I learned what made content go viral and what brands were doing wrong on social media. I took what worked, developed a repeatable system and built Less Than Media to help other businesses especially those without a large digital presence grow online.”

Being a full-time student while running a business took structure, consistency and building a solid team, explained Ford.

Using a detailed scheduling method, Ford managed client work and academics while his client success managers and editors helped run the backend of the company.

“One of the benefits of working in social media is that our content continues to work even when we’re not actively online,” said Ford. “So even during my personal class time, the company was still posting, getting views and growing accounts. That made it possible to run a business without sacrificing school.”

The support from professors and programs ultimately gave Ford the flexibility to be able to further his academic career while also building a successful business.

“Quinnipiac gave me the space to build while still being a student. The professors and programs supported my goals and encouraged me to think creatively and strategically,” said Ford. “I was able to apply what I was learning in real time, which made everything more practical and impactful. The community and culture at Quinnipiac pushed me to keep scaling and improving.”

When asked about the most rewarding aspects of building his brand and company, Ford explained that he loves to see his clients succeed.

"It’s been incredible to build a system that runs beyond me," he said. "It’s not just about one viral moment, we’ve built a team and process that consistently delivers!”

Ford promotes real-time action and self improvement, by encouraging entrepreneurs and students to not be intimidated by overthinking or lack of resources, and to start creating now.

“Start now. Don’t wait for things to be perfect. Use the tools you already have and show up consistently. You don’t need a ton of money or connections to grow something real. If you focus on getting better each week and learning from the process, you’ll build momentum faster than you think," he said.
