The Legends A Cappella made history this past weekend when it took first place at an in-person ICCA Quarterfinal competition.

Founded in 2012, the group continues to bring students from all different majors together through their love of music.

This year’s set started in the summer, with Director Delaney Grady ’26 working on ideas long before the group met for rehearsal.

“To see this project unfold was incredible,” Grady said. “I couldn’t be prouder of The Legends and their hard work to get the first-place win.”

The Legends advance to semifinals, which will take place on March 30 at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston.

“I’m so proud of each and every person in this group,” said Isabel Bishop ‘27, music director. “The feeling we had walking off that stage, knowing we gave it our all, was the best feeling of my life.”

In addition to taking first place at the quarterfinals, they received special awards for Outstanding Vocal Percussion (Jake McCarthy ‘25, “Whole Set”) and Outstanding Soloist (Rocco Caminiti ’26 MS ‘27, “As the World Caves In.")

“It’s one thing to sit in my room and picture what a certain formation will look like, but it’s another thing seeing it in a dance studio with 17 people,” explained Caminiti, performance coordinator. “We spent hours perfecting every step, every turn, but it was all worth it to see a clean and cohesive set.”

Within the past four years, The Legends have gone to semifinals three times and won first place twice — once during a remote competition as a result of COVID-19.

“It’s felt absolutely unreal and relieving in a sense. Out of my four years in this group, this was the set that really seemed the most promising and I’m so proud of how far this group has come,” said McCarthy, The Legends’ president. “I can’t wait to see how they continue to push their limits and grow.”
