Holistic endorsement: What does that mean?

Holism is one of the inherent values in nursing and dates back to Florence Nightingale’s work. Holistic nursing represents a comprehensive approach to patient care.
As defined by the American Holistic Nurses Association, holistic nursing involves the practice of healing the whole person, including body, mind, spirit, culture, socioeconomic background and environment.
Holistic nurses embrace the relationships with their patients to promote healing and wellness. There is an interconnectedness of the patient’s biological, social, psychological, and spiritual aspects that make each one of us unique. Nursing care is individualized by understanding each patient’s unique and diverse needs.
At Quinnipiac, we operationalize holistic nursing in a deliberate way. In fact, the baccalaureate nursing program at Quinnipiac is one of just 14 BSN programs in the nation that are designated as holistically endorsed by the American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation (AHNCC). Within 2 years of completing your BSN program at QU, you are able to apply to AHNCC for individual certification as a holistic nurse and gain that additional credential.
After a recent self-study and peer review, the Quinnipiac School of Nursing was recently re-endorsed for the third time! This is a tribute to the nursing students and their ability to provide whole-person care and caring for their patients.
