The residence hall is home to about 300 first-year students, 94 sophomores, juniors and seniors, and 15 resident assistants — as well as a faculty mentor and residence hall director.
The residence hall is air-conditioned and has rooms for one and two students each. There are a variety of lounges, study nooks and communal kitchens as well as laundry facilities. A beautiful courtyard full of native plants is just outside the building. In addition, from native plants and trees to rain gardens, water-runoff prevention measures and lighting designed to minimize light pollution, The Grove stands as a symbol of Quinnipiac’s environmentally consciousness initiatives.
Throughout the building are symbols of the area with wooden wall-hangings of representatives of the area like a bobcat, a bear, an acorn and a pine tree — among others — hanging throughout the building.
The living experience will emphasize positive local community connections. Sophomores, juniors and seniors living in The Grove will focus in on a "big idea," which will provide a foundation to give back and problem-solve an issue with the local community and Quinnipiac and then collaborate with the first-year students to address challenges and accomplish their collective goals. Students will embark on this year-long project working with faculty and student mentors to develop their big idea.
Many of the rooms and lounges include breath-taking views of Sleeping Giant State Park and the surrounding area. There are also hooks in the courtyard for students to connect hammocks to study and relax on.
The Grove — the first of three buildings to be completed as part of the South Quad project — was carefully designed to promote extracurricular opportunities for students and enrich the living-learning experience. The design emphasizes building community while also advancing career readiness and emotional wellbeing. The new School of Business and SITE (Science, Innovation, Technology and Exploration) building are scheduled to open in May.
The Grove was built with the environment and sustainability in mind, designed to be LEED certified. Careful attention was given to promoting a healthy regional ecosystem that stimulates students, faculty and staff to practice sustainable behaviors in their personal and professional lives. Virtually every detail was planned to benefit area habitats.
A new water-filtration system ensures that any water leaving the area is clean.
