With the live action playing overhead on the jumbo digital screen in the Recreation and Wellness Center on the Mount Carmel Campus, two Bobcat Weekend game watch parties pulled in big crowds to see the Bobcats take on the UMaine Black Bears on October 17 and October 18 at the M&T Bank Arena on the York Hill Campus.
On October 18, Quinnipiac got the party started an hour before the puck dropped, giving fans plenty of time to stock up from a tempting array of game day appetizers, snacks, beverages and cocktails as pre-game pump-up music played. Free facepainting helped fans to put on game faces including the top choice, a blue Bobcat paw. Funky and fun props brought families over to the photo booth and to enjoy other activities offered by Power Station Events. As Boomer waded into the crowd, handing out high-fives and posing for selfies, student volunteers helped to distribute hundreds of posters, foam fingers, blue and gold pom poms, and strands up on strands of bead necklaces to amp up everyone’s Bobcat fan wear.
“This whole day has been great,” said Rachel Motyl, who came to Bobcat Weekend with family and friends to visit her daughter, Samantha Motyl, ’29. “We wanted to experience the hockey game, but tickets sold out quickly, so when I heard about the watch party, I said ‘Let’s do it!’ We have 10 people with us, and everything is great – we’re loving the music, the food, the photos.”
With his family visiting from Long Island, New York, Daniel Greff, ’28, MS ’29, said everyone was having a blast at the game watch party. Before the start of the game, Greff and his dad, Christopher Greff, had some fun clowning around at the photo booth.
“I love being here, so getting to bring them up is always great,” said Greff. “The Bobcat Weekend events have been awesome. Obviously, the watch party is a great opportunity, so I’m really happy we’re here, and we went on the 5K this morning, and that was really nice. It’s been awesome.”
The Berg family reunited with their Bobcat, Annika Berg ’29, for Bobcat Weekend and came out to enjoy the game watch party together. Berg was joined by her parents, Erik and Amy Berg, and her younger sister, Ella Berg. The family lives in Massachusetts.
“I love having them here. It’s very fun,” Berg said.
Out to enjoy the game watch party with her son, mom Krista Witkowski showed her Quinnipiac spirit with a bold, blue Bobcat paw painted on her face. She shared in the fun with her son, Adam Witkowski, ’27.
“This is our third time coming to Bobcat Weekend. It’s a good time to see my student and we enjoy sports, so it’s fun to be here to watch the game together,” Witkowski said.
