Brett started working at a private country club across the street from his house one summer in high school, where he took an interest in golf and began to occasionally play.
After going through a big growth spurt, Brett became a pitcher which caught the attention of Quinnipiac — where he was recruited by former baseball coach Dan “Skip” Gooley. Before Brett had even pitched a high school game, he signed with Quinnipiac to become a Bobcat.
Brett explained that once he arrived, not only did Gooley push him and his teammates to their physical limits on the field — but also pushed them to excel in the classroom.
Even during his time as a Division I baseball player, Brett maintained his interest in golf and made time to play during the summers.
As an undecided business major, Brett was able to explore a variety of classes to better understand the path he would want to take with his career. Through these classes and participation in various campus organizations, he discovered his passion within marketing.
During his time at Quinnipiac, Brett posted a team-best 2.45 ERA his senior year. He hoped for a call during the MLB draft that year — but had to rethink his future when that didn’t happen.
He decided to follow the lead of a couple teammates and pursue his MBA the following year where he eventually ended up working for them when they started their own digital marketing company. After a few years, Brett decided to head west to San Diego to try something new.
Once he arrived, Brett he explored a career within golf and made it his goal to work at TaylorMade Golf. He proved his determination and interest by dropping off his resume every two weeks and eventually scored a position in retail marketing a couple years later.
Now, 10 years later, Brett supervises TaylorMade’s in-house content team. Within this position, he is able to let his creativity take lead and work with some of the world’s greatest athletes.
While it isn’t the journey he predicted, it has been extremely fulfilling and made possible from his experiences and the people he met at Quinnipiac, he said.
