The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program offers:
  • Three, full-time pathways to licensure that may be completed in just over one year with reduced costs per credit to save you time and money.

  • Up to 90% tuition savings, including 50% guaranteed through cost saving opportunities:

    • Apprenticeships: A full-year, paid classroom experience in a partner district that includes a salary stipend and tuition savings of up to 50% for eligible students. Learn more about the apprenticeship opportunity.
    • Tuition-Paid Internships: A guaranteed 50% of tuition covered for qualifying students via tuition-paid internship placements within CT schools.
    • Scholarships & Grants: Speak with admissions to see if you qualify for a Noyce grant (90% tuition coverage) or other scholarship opportunities.
  • Late afternoon and evening scheduling that allows you to complete coursework around student teaching or other full time roles.

  • Support beyond the classroom, including induction support for those hired before their final semester and student-teaching experience while searching for a job.

  • The ability to graduate with a master's, full certification and teaching licensure, enabling you to get hired before you graduate.

For those who have a bachelor's degree and want to start a career as an elementary school teacher, the MAT in Elementary Education gives you the skills and confidence you need to make a difference in the lives of children. Designed for those with a bachelor's degree in biology, English, history or mathematics, the MAT in Secondary Education allows you to earn your master's degree and teaching certification in just over one year. During your studies, you'll take graduate content courses to deepen your subject expertise, as well as various courses in teaching and learning, classroom management and adolescent development.

MAT in Special Education

The MAT in Special Education is designed for those with a bachelor's degree and prepares future educators for success in many roles within the field of special education. Throughout the program, graduates will master how to develop and implement individualized education programs and 504 plans, conduct functional behavioral assessments and design behavioral intervention programs.
