Financial Support for MAT Candidates

$30K in Funding Available for Future Teachers

To help address the shortage of teachers in Connecticut, Quinnipiac has been awarded been awarded a $127,500 grant from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Education Workforce Development program. As the only graduate program in the state to receive this funding, this groundbreaking partnership allows for students to work a paid position while earning their MAT and gain hands-on experience working in the classroom under the mentorship of skilled teachers.

This funding supports students in the MAT program by offering: 
  • A $20,000 reduction in tuition which covers most of your program costs.
  • An additional $10,000 stipend paid while gaining classroom experience as a full-time teaching apprentice. 
  • A designated number of apprentice roles in East Haven and West Haven school districts. 

Other opportunities for significant cost savings are also available, including internship and residency placements in partnering districts allow for tuition remission of up to 50% of the program cost. Other third-party scholarship opportunities should also be considered.

MAT in Secondary Education

Designed for those with a bachelor's degree in biology, English, history or mathematics, the MAT in Secondary Education allows you to earn your master's degree and teaching certification in just over one year. During your studies, you'll take graduate content courses to deepen your subject expertise, as well as various courses in teaching and learning, classroom management and adolescent development.

MAT in Special Education

The MAT in Special Education is designed for those with a bachelor's degree and prepares future educators for success in many roles within the field of special education. Throughout the program, graduates will master how to develop and implement individualized education programs and 504 plans, conduct functional behavioral assessments and design behavioral intervention programs.
